The end of last October, I started The Bar Method at the encouragement of a dear friend, who had been taking the class for some time. She and I had done a form of boot camp and prior to that I had been a racewalker/runner and coach.

For the past 25 years, I was about fast reps and speed to get results. The results I received were lower tight back muscles, coupled with tight hamstrings and hip abductors. Advil was my friend, several times a week.

When I began The Bar Method, I knew I was in for a whole new chapter on exercising. Never having a dance background, I was beginning to live my fantasy childhood of being at the ballet bar with fluidity, grace and precision. My posture was caved in, gravitating to protect my soul from my younger years.

The kind reminders from the instructors, whether it was verbal or by touching my shoulder blades opened me up to believing, “my body and soul” can do this and rise to higher heights. To my amazement, I was pleasantly surprised when I went for a physical and the doctor said I had grown a ½ an inch. Finally, as a grown woman I am learning to “Stand Tall!”

Additionally, I have had other amazements along the way…when I first started the class, someone shared I would feel something different after doing “glutes and tucks.” I got what she was saying and I was not the only one benefiting from the exercise, so was my husband.

Recently, I had a stress test. The doctor was aware of me working out 5-6 days a week. Obviously, doing the test, they want to know what your maximum is and I am delighted to share after not running for 6 months, at the magical age of just turning 59, I sustained at the maximum for 3 minutes with my heart rate at 187. I have the Bar Method to thank for making me a Stellar Patient!

As for all the abs we do in class, they do give results. It is exciting to see the muscle tone and six-pack evolve. I have lost an inch in my waist, so all the “inhaling and exhaling doing the curls and tucks” provide a desirable outcome.

I am forever grateful to the amazing instructors! It is wonderful to have them correct my form by touch or name, as every day is an Opportunity for Greatness! Greatness, to a healthier me in “Mind, Body and Soul.” Thank you, Marin for bringing The Bar Method to Plano, TX!
